Piezo Film Circuit Tests

  • Hooked up a piezo film to MCP602 Instrumentation Amp:
    Odd behavior:
    Whereas threshold trigger LED lights up as you'd expect when + pulses are created by bending the piezo film,
    analog voltage readings are very low compared to expectations. That is, assuming a bend creates >1v, the analog output voltage should spike to Vcc, but it does not, only going to 1+ volt or so. Can only figure it is hysteresis/delay in reading the analog out, because as I said the trigger LED does flash, indicating I am indeed getting ~ 2.6v output.

  • OTOH other online sources suggest the voltages put out by the film are high enough to not need such a high-gain amp...
