Linux commands - small subset that I've found useful:
- Dual-monitor output:
Fn - F8 (eventually) switches to dual monitor output, so that VGA output can be converted and sent to HDMI monitor input. (VGA-to-HDMI converter must be plugged in for anything to happen.)

- Save a screen shot:
- hold Fn key, press F11
'Save Screenshot' dialog box opens
enter desired filename (change extension to .jpg if desired)
and location, then <Save>
or... <Copy to Clipboard>
- Crop it with Gimp:
- Create a desktop shortcut
- in file manager, navigate to file desired
- click to select file
- right-click
- click Make Link
If make link is not shown, click '+' in upper right of window for 'Show More Actions'
- drag and drop shortcut to wherever desired
