(link to:) Quick Start Guide

  • Installation: Dell tower.
    • Software was installed in .../masterWorkingFiles/tech/ham radio/SDR/software directory
    • Software (top menu bar) > RTL-SDR Supported Software
    • Scroll down to SDR# section
    • Click on QuickStart Page
    • Scroll down and follow instructions in SDR# Setup Guide section
(Note: instructions I've captured below do not have details and gotchas that are included in the Setup Guide)
      • Go to airspy.com and download sdrsharp-x86.zip
      • Extract all
      • Double click on install-rtlsdr.bat
Confirm rtlsdr.dll and zadig.exe were successfully downloaded into SDR# directory
      • Plug in SDR dongle
Wait and be sure attempts to self-install drivers has failed.
~2 min notification: Device is ready.
      • Find zadig.exe, right-click and select 'Run as Administrator'
Select "No", do not allow checking for updates online
      • In zadig, check Options > 'List All Devices', and un-check 'Ignore Hubs ...'
      • Select "Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)" from the drop down list. Note on some PCs you may see something like RTL2832UHIDIR or RTL2832U instead of the bulk-in interface. This is also a valid selection. Do not select "USB Receiver (Interface 0) or Interface 1" or anything else or you will overwrite that driver! Double check that USB ID shows "0BDA 2838 00" as this indicates that the dongle is selected.
Ended up selecting RTL option. USB ID was correct.
      • In 'Driver' line, be sure WinUSB is selected in the box to the right of the arrow
      • click 'Replace Driver'
This was a little glitchy, but managed to make it work.
        Closed zadig.
      • Open SDRsharp.exe, and set Source to RTL-SDR (USB)
      • Press the Play button
      • You should be up and running
      • Amazingly It Worked!!
Did not pick up any ham signals, but lots of FM, lots of Spanish language broadcasts, probably some TV audio...
UI is a bit complicated and will take some work to put it through its paces...
      • However: It did not work when I tried it later. See here:
