dual-boot - create USB stick
-----
- I have a Dell Precision M4600 laptop:
- Intel I7-2720QM 2.2 gHz
- ram: 8 gb DDR3 L2 cache: 12 MB
- bus freq: 1.6 gHz
- HD - 120gB SSD
- FG: 1D19 - 23521
- power adapter: 19.5v
- This laptop was bought 2019-10-11 from Free Geek in Portland, OR. They set it up, as they do all their machines, with Linux. I think they originally installed Linux 19.2 Mint.
- 2025-07-10: Fresh install of Linux Mint 22.1 to overwrite existing 20.0
- To Load a new version of Linux:
- Power off, insert bootable USB stick into rear USB port on left side.
Turn on power. When Dell logo appears, immediately press F12, 3 or 4x until orange message appears in upper right.
"USB Storage Device" should show up in "Legacy Boot" list.
Use arrow keys to highlight it. Press enter.
- Errors may be shown, but it will proceed regardless.
- When Linux boots up, there will be an icon on the desktop, upper left corner, "Install Linux Mint".
Double-click it. Answer prompts for your selected options. Wait ...
