Caveat: This page is very incomplete and very much a work in progress...

I got this radio from the estate of Colin Zylka, K7VIZ, SK in July 2020. It has his codeplug loaded.
-------------------------

  • Connect microphone and antenna and power up.
    "Booting Please Wait",
after being powered off for some time,
      "Calibrate Date" screen comes up.
"GMT-07:00" second line, in red. This is the local offset to GMT (= UTC).
Turning channel knob (top right) changes the hours.
Pressing the knob in changes the time to white and year display to red.
Continue in this manner to set the rest of the date and the actual time displays.
When done, press Menu key (adjacent to the "Confirm" on the screen).

    then AT logo,
    then main screen comes up.
    -------------------------

  • Main Screen:
Four icons across the top, two on the left side and two on the right:
Far left and far right icons are antenna symbols
Icon will have signal strength bars when it's receiving a signal.

Second icon from left is the power level icon, a square with a letter in it:

red "T" (turbo), white "L" (low), white "M" (medium), or white "H" (high)
These are rotated through the options with the [P4] key - see below

To the right of the power icon may be a red icon that looks like a speaker.
This indicates that you're in digital mode. (???)

GPS icon will be red when activated (?) and is used for APRS
"R" Roaming function will allow radio to automatically switch to next repeater is you're traveling and move out of range of the repeater you're initially connected to.
Third icon from left (near right side) is "C01". This is the "Color Code".

Center of the screen: three lines:

The first line has 4 (potential) fields:
a (hard to read) blue icon "DIG" (changes to "ANA for analog stations),
        (white letters)"CH-29"
blue icon "T1" or "T2", presumably the TDMA time-slot
blue icon "R" for repeater. If it's blank, then it's not a repeater frequency.
This "R" repeater icon is toggled off (ie. not a repeater freq) with the "TalkAround-ON" parameter - see [P4] below

The 2nd & 3rd lines are specific to the existing programming in the radio.
Second line: The name of the Talk Group last accessed.
Third line: The name of the Zone that the TG belongs to

Pressing the SubPTT-A/B button on the microphone toggles between that listing and:

      blue icon and "CH-46"
      "147.500 Simplex"
      "Gorge Analog"

    (but it didn't ???)

  • Rotating upper right knob scrolls through the channels programmed in the zone that is displayed.
    -------------------------

  • "P" keys:
P1 - P6 keys can be programmed for different functions. In addition, each key can have two functions programmed, selected by a short-keypress or a long-keypress.
On this radio, the [Px] keys have been programmed as follows:
    • [P1] goes to "Input Zone Num"
Enter [num] for whatever zone desired on microphone keypad, then [Menu]/Confirm
      Zone 1 is Stacker Butte
      Zone 2 is Hood River
      Zone 3 is Juniper Point
      Zone 4 is Gorge Analog

      [P1-long] is not programmed

    • [P2] toggles the Transmit Power (second icon at the top) through its 4 options:
It's a square with a letter in it:
red "T" (turbo), white "L" (low), white "M" (medium), or white "H" (high)
These are rotated through the options with repeated pressing [P4]

[P2-long] starts a recording, pressing long again stops recording.

    • [P3] is "Spk Mode:" and repeatedly pressing it cycles between options: "Mik Spk", "Radio Spk", and "Both"
[P3-long] starts a recording (different type than P2), pressing-long again stops recording
    • [P4] toggles between "TalkAround On" & "TalkAround Off" ("Off" is "Repeater mode")
This also toggles the "R" icon (see Main Screen above) visible or not
      [P4-long] goes to Messages menu
    • [P5] switches to VFO mode (programmed by me); Pressing again goes back to memory channel mode
    • [P6] goes to a list "Digi Encrypt"
First list item, "Encrypt Off" is selected

      [P6-long] is not programmed

    • Programming the AT-D578UV

    -------------------------

  • The "Exit" key brings up a list of 36 Talk Groups
Turning the top right knob scrolls through them, however Gorge Analog group appears to not have any programmed
  • There are three "Parrot" groups listed:
Parrot 1 (CH-16) on Stacker Butte zone
HR Parrot (CH-126) on Hood River zone
Jper Parrot (CH-86) on Juniper Point zone

These are groups which echo back to you (after a couple of seconds delay) whatever you transmitted to them.

  • Pressing upper right knob (sometimes?) turns on FM radio. Pressing again turns it off.
