• Part Design workbench
• Select an element in the drawing, eg. a face
  Part Design > Create a datum plane
  Plane Parameters box should say something like:
  Selecting... Revolution Face3
  Attachment mode box should say:
  Plane face
• Attachment Offset:
  Fill out fields to position and orient the datum plane as desired.
  Click OK
  If Reference dialogue box opens,
  saying your selected geometry is not a part of the active body,
  then select Make Independent Copy, click OK

• Select datum plane in model tree
  Create new sketch

• Still only so-so ...
  Proceeding differently...

• Cut a corner off a cube:
  • Create a cube by padding a square drawn in Part Design

  • select a face of the cube
  • Part Design - Create datum plane
  • enter desired parameters,
    or click OK
    and double-click datum plane in model tree to edit
  • enter: Pitch 45, Roll 45
  • click a vertex that you want the plane to pass through
  • click ok

  • select datum plane in model tree
    create sketch
    draw a closed shape that encloses the corner you want to cut
  • close sketch

  • with sketch selected in model tree,
    select cut, reversed,
    you Must enter a value larger than the height of the part you're cutting
    click ok

• Cut a corner off a cube:
  • Create a cube by padding a square drawn in Part Design
  • click in a blank spot (not on an element) in view pane to deselect everything from the model tree
  • Part Design - Create a datum plane
    under Plane Parameters:
    top box on the left should say "selecting..."
    click first of 3 points in the drawing
        field should change to show the element selected, eg. vertex
    next box down will say "Reference 2"
    click the box and it will change to "selecting..."
    click second of 3 points in the drawing
        field should change to show the element selected, eg. vertex
    click in the next box down, "Reference 3". It will change to "selecting..."
    click 3rd point in the drawing
    click OK
