this is a (mostly) base-20 syntax.
Only mostly, because the "d" is base 18.

So a date represented as:
a.b.c.d.e
calculates as:

(e * 20⁰) + (d * 18¹) + (c * 20²) + (b * 20³) + (a * 20⁴)
which gives a number of the count of days from the beginning, about 08/11/BC 3114
